Tinuy-an Falls for the Weekend

I am back, and glad to be with you again. I cannot post more photos as have some backlogs at work, can't even get a much needed full body massage yet. But our experiences certainly camouflaged the muscle sores, the long hours of bus rides and waiting time at every connecting points along the journey. This is the main purpose of our long weekend trip to Bislig, Surigao del Norte, Philippines. It might not be the tallest of the Philippine Waterfalls, but certainly it is one of the widest, the Tinuy-an Falls.

It is reached from Manila to Butuan by plane. Three carriers ply this route, Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines, and Airphil Express. From Butuan to Bislig is a 6-hour bus ride by Bachelor Express, then an hour hired van from Bislig town to Tinuy-an Falls. Many hotels and lodging houses are in Bislig town proper.

More professional shots and post is done by my friend here:

  2. Hi Betsy, you are so quick, i am still editing and here you are already, haha. You are foremost in my mind in posting this falls, i know you would like to see it in person too. Come and i will take you there!

  3. Wow! Very nice. Is it also possible to hire a van from butuan to Tinuy-an?We have a friend in Butuan. I think it is time to pay him a visit. Haha.

ps. I'm having trouble accessing your friends blog.

  4. Hi Bom i also had difficulties making the link work, now i just put it the old way, now working. And yes, you can hire vans from Butuan, but it is easier to stay overnight in Bislig. In our case we came back to Manila via Davao which is another 6.5 aircon bus hours from Bislig. I didn't sleep throughout the journey because of the biodiversity along the way.

  5. Saw Oggie Ramos' site. Thanks for fixing the link. I'd still want to stay overnight in Bislig. Just hesitant about taking the bus. If the kids are with us, it's always better to have more control over speed and stops. :-D

  6. Bom - if you want, Oggie has numbers of the hotels, it's better to have prior accom before going there to get rid of our experience. However, i don't think he has the vans' contact numbers. Vans to Davao are also available.

  7. Wow!!! Sounds like a long trek. Beautiful waterfall. How long were you there for? Did you get to see any wildlife? I like your last shot of the waterfall where the water seems to blend in together....how did you do that?

  8. Chris - you should see my friend's link in my post at the end. His shots are better. Most of these are with slow shutters, but that last one is shot at dusk. We went in the morning but the lights are so bright, so we went there again after sunset. There are wildlives, but they seem to be out of our attention. We did not see crocodiles because they are in the Agusan marsh, which we did not visit.

  9. So you have been having fun and neglecting your friends!

I was going to ask you the same question Chris did. The last one is an amazing photo. Looks as if there are special effects.

Welcome back and please visit my dogs and kittens.

  12. Andrea, may not be the largest waterfalls in the world, but they are breathtakingly beautiful and superbly photographed.

  13. I think, I hope, I may be getting a new camera in December which will allow me to expand on my photography abilities...like the slow shutter feater. I don't have that on my camera. It's funny. I started this blog with a grainy camera, went to what I thought was an amazing camera, and now am limited by what I could do with this camera. My other half says it's time to upgrade because I've outgrown this camera. Love your friend's site and pics as well! Time to work:(

  15. It's amazing how very little I actually know about the natural wonders of the Philippines, I haven't even heard of this waterfall before. And it looks fantastic! Another one for a future visit :)

  16. The view is really worth the long trip. I had an inkling you were out somewhere on vacation.

  17. how lovely. I wish i could visit a waterfall - and just really relax and enjoy the beauty of it!

  18. Stunning photographs Andrea! It's a beautiful waterfall indeed.

I was just thinking of you as the huge croc caught in the Phillipines made our national news. Very neat! I hope there are none near the Tinuy-an Falls.

  19. Alistair - thank you so much for appreciating my shots. I also love your reply in my comment on your site about "not usually appreciating what we have", that is true. In the case of my photos, i always consider them mediocre compared to my friends because they are professional photographers. But i consider myself lucky to have friends who have better capabilities, to give me higher standards. My final verdict for my photos: they made me happy so that's just fine!

  20. Solitude Rising - haha, yes i'm sure you know when i'm somewhere, as i have fairly regular patterns.

Wendy - i want to go with you because i am sure you have plenty of food to bring for a picnic.

Mark and Gaz - i just learned of this from friends, and when i posted them, just realized i also have other friends who were born there.

Tina - the area we went to is just a province away from where the crocodile was caught, Agusan Marsh. It is Mindanao's counterpart of the Everglades. Many blogger friends thought of me when that news came out.

  24. Andrea, so glad to have you back here! You were on real holiday while I was on blog holiday - I envy envy you. I love your photo compositions. The last picture make me want to dive in for a swim ;>)

I want more photos about your recent escapade. One has dogs and kittens to show you while I only have (other people's) dog poo, cat vomit and mealy bugs in my garden
    :(

Your gigantic waterfalls pictures are a refreshing sight to behold!

  25. Andrea these are so beautiful - what a great trip you must have had.

I detect a very slow shutterspeed aswell with that dreamy soft water.
Did you use a tripod or like me place the camera on a ledge of rock?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Photo Cache - yes i've long been seeing your comments in Ferdz' and Oggie's blogs.

Donna - thanks for appreciating my shots, when i hear it from you now i hope you mean it, or else you will just not say anything, haha!

Joyce M - thanks for your visit and kind words.

Autumn Belle - i can relate to what you see in your gardens, at least they do it in the garden and not in the kitchen, haha! I will be posting more in the next days. Again i saw a hibiscus plant with 2 colors in one plant: red and beige.

Rosie - all these shots i used a tripod but i also use handheld many times. Two of us (ladies)just tagged along our 2 professional photographer friends (males), so it is a bit embarrassing if we will not bring a tripod. My flaw is often forgetting to put off the image stabilization even if it is already mounted to a tripod! That negates the tripod use and makes more shakes. haha

  27. Most stunning!!! Andrea...it was worth all the trouble after all. My, these are fantastic images! I also LOVE the way you got the reflection.

About your comment on my blog, yes the photo was taken in October so the flow wasn't much.

  28. Wonderful shots! Loved the last one :)

  29. Worth the aches and pains of the journey to see these falls. I too like the slow shutter speed that captures the water in silky fronds

  32. Kanak - i hope i can see some waterfalls in India too.

Birgitta - are there falls in Sweden, i felt there are just bigger lochs and smaller locks or maybe manmade lochs. lol.

Lagalog - thanks for dropping by, actually i want my blogger friends to really see how the falls should look like in expert hands.

Patio Patch - the camaraderie also magnifies the beauty of the experience, but i still have muscle aches till now!

  33. Kingdom - i think i know who you are!

Chubskulit - maybe the two of you know each other, and i hope not!

  34. You mentioned that I did not see your beautiful waterfall images, but I had seen them. My comment did resister above for once. I have been having trouble leaving comments on your posts because when I push to submit, sometimes the page goes blank. I never miss your posts through Blotancal though. These images really are wonderful, Andrea. Glad you took us to see them too.

  35. Haha! I bet you do Mam...because when you think, I therefore exist! :D But Chubs and I don't know each other...yet. that is as far as I know....unless she knows me "behind the scenes"! hehe.
