Ruby Red

Our extremely hot (>36°C) and humid dry season did not deter these plants to flower profusely.  This salvia somehow showed some decrease in growth of the stems, and decreased length of spikes but they are as lovely as during the colder months.

Bougainvillea, of all our ornamental plants, likes our dry months to show more flowers. Usually, the flowers are in sets of threes. They look so elegant in their tall pedestals when viewed this way.

  6. I didn't realize there's a red salvia. I know of one variety of salvia only, the purple one.

    1. Hi Maria, but this salvia has sparse very small flowers, and don't organize themselves nicely. I envy the salvia growing in subtropical climes.

  12. Your salvia reminds me of our Salvia greggii. What's the scientific name for yours?

From looking at the comments, seems like everyone has a favorite salvia.

    1. Sorry Kathleen, it is just from someone's garden which we really don't know the name. I just compared it with net's photos and thought it is the same as the salvia there. We don't know its cultivar.

  16. Our weather here is quite similar now. We have touched 37 oC a few days ago. There was rain under the hot sun and so humid! My bougainvilleas are flowering well though.
